Texas Dental CE Requirements

As a dental professional, it’s important to stay up to date on the latest changes and requirements in the industry. One of the most important is staying current with your continuing education requirements. For those who practice in Texas, this means understanding the regulations set forth by the Texas State Board of Dentistry. Let’s take a look at what you need to know about continuing education requirements in the Lone Star State. The Texas State Board of Dentistry requires all dentists who are licensed and/or practicing in Texas to complete 24 hours of continuing education (CE) credits each year. This requirement includes 24 hours of relevant CE courses that cover topics such as dental ethics, patient management, and clinical dentistry practices. The board also requires that licensees obtain at least one hour of training related to pain management or opioid prescribing during each two-year renewal cycle. It should be noted that some licenses may have additional CE requirements—for example, if you have an Advanced Practice Permit from the board, you will need additional hours each year for continued practice.

Texas Dental License Renewal

In Texas, in order to maintain an active license with the board, you must renew your license every two years before your expiration date. When submitting your renewal application, you will need to include proof of completion for any required continuing education credits obtained since your last renewal period—this includes any special qualifications such as Advanced Practice Permits or any other specialty certifications you may have obtained during this time frame. All documentation must be submitted before your expiration date in order for your application to be processed successfully.  Understanding how continuing education works is essential for any dentist practicing in Texas—not only is it mandatory by law but it also helps ensure that you remain up-to-date with best practices in patient care and safety standards.
