New California Dental CE Requirements 2023

The Dental Board of California has just released new dental continuing education requirements for 2023. The existing 2-hour California Dental Practice Act course requirement has been expanded to include sections on professional ethics. The new expanded CE course will be required for dental license renewal for dentists (DDS, DMD), dental hygienists (RDH), and dental assistants (RDA).

Schedule II Opioid Prescribing CE

Dentists (who are able to prescribe Schedule II opioid pain medications) will now be required to take a CE course on Opioid prescribing to renew their licenses. Dental hygienists and dental assistants are not required to take this course, but they may opt to do so if they would like the CE credit hours.

Dental CE Course Approvals

California Licensed and Registered Dental Continuing education Providers (such as Dental Didactics) must submit their new course outlines and content to the Dental Board of California for pre-approval. Only dental CE courses pre-approved by the California Dental Board will be recognized for CE license renewal credit. Dental Didactics is actively producing new course materials that will meet the California Dental Board requirements, and the new CE courses will be available to be ordered on January 1, 2023  Dental CE courses
