Florida Dental CE Requirements

Keeping up with continuing education is a critical part of being a dentist in the state of Florida. It’s important to stay on top of all the necessary requirements for licensure, so let’s take a look at what you need to know about continuing education requirements in the state of Florida. Requirements and Restrictions: Dentists in Florida must complete at least 24 hours of continuing education every two years, with at least half of those hours completed during each one-year period. Of those 24 hours, two must be focused on HIV/AIDS courses and one must be focused on domestic violence courses or risk management courses. In addition, dentists are required to complete any additional courses that may be imposed by the Board due to disciplinary action or for other purposes related to ongoing professional development.

Online Remote Learning Hours Allowed

It’s important to note that no more than 12 hours of online courses can be used toward your annual continuing education requirement in any given year, and no more than 24 hours over the two-year period. You can also carry over up to 12 unused hours from one renewal period into the next; however, any unused hours beyond 12 will not count toward your total CE requirement. Lastly, it is important to keep track of course certificates as they will need to be submitted when applying for license renewal every two years.

Florida Dental CE Approved Providers

The Board recognizes approved CE providers, Including Dental Didactics that offer continuing education in topics including dental materials, radiography safety and techniques, infection control practices, pharmacology updates, developments in dental practice management, and more. Dentists can take their courses from an accrediting organization acceptable to the Board, such as the Academy of General Dentistry National PACE Provider Program. Dental Didactics is a National PACE Provider #217643.

Conclusion:

Continuing education is an essential part of being a dentist in Florida. With its specific requirements and restrictions regarding number of hours completed per year and where you can get your credits from, it's important that you understand everything needed for license renewal before starting your CE journey every two years. With proper planning and preparation ahead of time, meeting your CE requirements should be straightforward and easy!
